Withdraw court case to liquidate GFA - Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe appeals

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, a director of Accra Hearts of Oak, believes government and the league clubs can reach an amicable resolution by agreeing to reforms without any form of liquidation of the football governing body.

In an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM on Wednesday, he explained that many footballers in the country risked suffering unduly should the current impasse between clubs and GFA continue.

"The government should withdraw the case from court so we can have a peaceful resolution and allow football to return in the interest of the sport. "Many careers will suffer should the current impasse continue and I think government must act fast to put things in order," he said.

All football activities have been suspended by government after it filed a suit to liquidate the GFA, following an exposé by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, on alleged widespread corruption in Ghana football involving leading officials of the Ghana FA and many referees, most of whom have been suspended after investigations by the local referees body and the Confederation of African Football.

In pursuit of the government's commitment to dissolve the football governing body, the Ghana FA secretariat was cordoned off by the police on June 8 and designated a crime scene. On June 12, the government, though its Attorney General, obtained an injunction on activities of the GFA and its officials, planing a ban on organised football in the country.

Following a meeting in Zurich with football's world governing body, FIFA, the government appointed a two-man liaison team comprising Dr Kofi Amoah and Francis Oti Akenteng, to coordinate national team activities and facilitate the participation of Ghana in the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in France.

On Monday, FIFA in a letter to Dr Amoah, gave the government an August 27 deadline to withdraw a high court petition to initiate processes to liquidate the Ghana FA or risk Ghana being suspended from all football activities worldwide.

FIFA's letter signed by its Secretary-General, Fatma Samoura, described the government's action "undue influence in the affairs of the GFA in contravention of FIFA Statutes".

"If the petition to start the liquidation process of the GFA is not withdrawn by Monday, August 27, the GFA will be suspended with immediate effect."

Former chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has called on the government to withdraw an impending liquidation case in court to pave way for a peaceful resolution of the problems facing administration of the game.
